What happened
The US President releases a 20-point plan on 29 September 2025, which Israel's prime minister accepts. Israel and Hamas agree its first phase at Sharm el-Sheikh on 8–9 October, and a ceasefire takes effect on 10 October as Israeli forces pull back to a "Yellow Line" that, by reported estimates, leaves Israel controlling just over half the Strip. All living hostages are released by 13 October in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and detainees.
It is the ceasefire in force, with continuing Israeli strikes and violations alleged by both sides, and the 20-point plan is the framework later endorsed by Resolution 2803. The Yellow Line has since moved: Israel's prime minister directed in May 2026 that control reach 70 per cent, and in October 2026 Israel put the area it holds at about 60 per cent (AFP); no independent measurement was found. The line is an Israeli military designation, not a fixed boundary.
