Each Map opens the geography of a coverage area. Where activity series are recorded, it also shows their tempo over time, the key developments behind them, and the Watch questions they bear on.
Vigil currently covers 8 areas: Ukraine–Russia in Eastern Europe; Sahel in Central Sahel / West Africa; Caucasus in South Caucasus / North Caucasus; Syria in Levant / Eastern Mediterranean; Taiwan in Indo-Pacific / East Asia; Iran–Gulf in Gulf / West Asia; Eastern Flank in Northern and Eastern Europe; Levant in Israel, the Palestinian territories and Lebanon. Each is listed in full below, with its latest review.

Where this fits
The map draws the same records Exploredraws, entered from place rather than from actor or force, and adds one thing over them: a tempo band that counts recorded, sourced events per week or month at published markers, with the key developments that explain the pattern on the same axis. The written analysis those records belong to is the conflict coverage. Markers are approximate published locations with their own sources and confidence — never positions or movements — and a recorded event is a count at such a marker, never an effect or a live picture; see the methodology.
