Broad area of activity
Israel's coast and territorial waters and the waters off Gaza, described at strategic scale only
Notable history
The navy has enforced the maritime closure of the Gaza Strip since 2007, intercepting civilian flotillas that sought to break it, among them the Mavi Marmara in May 2010. Since the 2010s it has protected the offshore gas fields, which Hezbollah threatened with unarmed drones launched towards Karish in July 2022, and on 7 October 2023 it engaged Hamas naval commandos landing on the coast near Zikim.
Strengths
Control of the sea off Gaza, and more than a decade of protecting the offshore gas fields on which Israel's power and its exports to Egypt and Jordan rest.
Limitations
Eilat, the Red Sea port, lost its traffic to the Houthi shipping campaign of 2023–25, which naval power on the Mediterranean coast could not reopen. No hulls, dispositions or operations are recorded.
