- Notable history
- The IDF was surprised by the Hamas-led attack of 7 October 2023 and fought the war in Gaza that followed, a front with Hezbollah from 8 October 2023 that became a ground operation in southern Lebanon in late 2024, and a second war with Hezbollah from 2 March 2026. Since January 2025 it has also conducted a sustained operation in the northern West Bank camps. Ceasefires in Gaza (October 2025) and Lebanon (June 2026) have left Israeli forces holding ground in both. - Strengths
- Air superiority over every Levant front, layered missile defence, a large reserve system and intelligence reach.
- Limitations
- A reserve force strained by three years of multi-front war, fronts that ceasefires have paused rather than closed, and arrangements in Gaza and Lebanon that tie withdrawal to disarmament it does not control. No dispositions, strength or operational detail are published.
