- Notable history
- The IDF's investigations into 7 October, published in 2025, found that military intelligence had misjudged Hamas's intentions and capabilities. In the wars that followed, intelligence-led targeting of leadership and infrastructure defined Israel's campaigns against Hezbollah in 2024 and 2026 and against Hamas in Gaza.
- Strengths
- Intelligence-led targeting that reached the senior leadership of both Hezbollah and Hamas in 2024, which the IDF acknowledges and the organisations themselves confirmed.
- Limitations
- The IDF's own investigations into 7 October found that the directorate had misjudged Hamas's intentions and capabilities, the failure from which the Gaza war began. What it now assesses about the remaining arsenals in Gaza and Lebanon is not public, and nothing here describes sources or methods.
