Iran has funded and armed Hezbollah since the 1980s. After the fall of the Assad government and Lebanon's ban on Iranian flights cut the direct routes, the US Treasury and, as a party's claim, Israel described Iranian money still reaching Hezbollah in 2025. What Iran has provided in 2026 is not established.

Summary
Iranian support for Hezbollah dates from the organisation's emergence in the early 1980s. The routes changed after the November 2024 cessation: the fall of the Assad government in December 2024 closed the land route through Syria, and Lebanon barred Iranian flights from February 2025. On 6 November 2025 the US Treasury said the IRGC-Qods Force had transferred over $1 billion to Hezbollah, mostly through money exchange companies. Israel, in a letter to the Security Council of 6 October 2025 (S/2025/621), claimed that more than $1 billion had reached Hezbollah since the November 2024 ceasefire, through flights including routes via third countries such as Türkiye; the two figures are separate claims and are not added together. In July 2026 Syria's interior ministry said it had seized missiles, anti-tank weapons and drones bound for Hezbollah at the Iraqi border, which Hezbollah denies. In October 2026 Reuters, citing anonymous sources, reported $200m from Iran for the displaced, which the US State Department disputes. Against this, the Lebanese state has undertaken, in the June 2026 Framework, to prevent reconstruction funds reaching non-state armed groups.
Why it matters
Every Lebanon instrument aims to end Hezbollah's armed role, and that role rests on this supply. Whether Iranian money and arms still arrive after the 2026 war, and by which route, decides whether disarmament by the Lebanese state is a question of will or of a capability that is being replenished.

What remains unknown
- The Treasury text read states no period for its $1 billion figure, and Israel's figure is a claim by a party to the conflict; neither is independently verified, and they are not added together. A US State Department estimate of about $700 million a year (Country Reports on Terrorism 2018) is older and is not carried forward as a current figure.
- What Iran has provided since the 2026 war began, including after the June ceasefire, is not established from any source read.
- No source read establishes a command relationship; Hezbollah's decisions, including its entry into the 2026 war, are not attributed to Iranian direction here.
Readings the evidence also supports
- Hezbollah's entry into the war on 2 March 2026, days after the strikes on Iran, can be read as acting for its patron or as its own decision about a war that threatened its supply. The evidence read does not distinguish them.
