Hezbollah enters the 2026 war, and Israel strikes across Lebanon

2 Mar 2026 Essential

What happened

In the opening days of the war with Iran, Hezbollah fires rockets and drones at Israel on 2 March 2026. Israel responds with air strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs and southern Lebanon that extend across the country.

It ended the 2024 cessation in practice and re-founded the Israel–Lebanon front: every instrument that now governs it — the April cessation, the Israeli-held zone, the Trilateral Framework — follows from this decision. The opening of the Iran war is Iran–Gulf's record (iran-gulf-war-opens); Hezbollah's entry is the Levant event.
