Rafah reopens for people with the EU border mission

2 Feb 2026

What happened

The Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt reopens for the movement of people on 2 February 2026, with the EU Border Assistance Mission redeployed. It is closed from 28 February to 19 March and has opened intermittently since. The EU renewed the mission on 28 September 2026 to 30 June 2027.

It is the only crossing for people that does not pass through Israel, and its operating model reuses the 2005 movement-and-access arrangement. Its intermittent status, rather than any single opening, is what the module's access records track.
