The Iran war closes Gaza's crossings and shuts Israel's offshore gas

28 Feb – Apr 2026

What happened

On the opening day of the war with Iran, Israel closes all Gaza crossings, including Rafah, as a security measure; Kerem Shalom reopens for aid from 3 March. The Leviathan and Karish gas fields are shut the same day; Leviathan restarts after about a month. Energy shortfalls follow in Egypt and Jordan, which import Israeli gas.

The war itself is Iran–Gulf's record (iran-gulf-war-opens); this event is its Levant consequence. It showed how directly a regional war reaches Gaza's access and the gas interface with Egypt and Jordan, and since 24 May 2026 Kerem Shalom has been Gaza's only cargo crossing.
