What happened
The US State Department publishes the "Ten Day Cessation of Hostilities to Enable Peace Negotiations Between Israel and Lebanon", agreed by both governments. Israel refrains from offensive operations while keeping self-defence against planned, imminent or ongoing attacks; Lebanon commits to take meaningful steps to prevent attacks by Hezbollah and other non-state armed groups; only the Lebanese state's listed forces may bear arms; and the two states, stating they are "not at war", commit to direct US-facilitated negotiations, including on demarcation of the land boundary. It is extended by three weeks on 23 April and by 45 days on 15 May.
It moved Israel and Lebanon into direct negotiation between the two governments, without Hezbollah and outside the 2024 Mechanism, whose meetings had been suspended in March — the format that produced the June framework. It names no monitoring body and no withdrawal terms. A conditional ceasefire was agreed on 3 June, and the UN records a Hezbollah–Israel ceasefire in effect from 19 June.
