Palestinian presidential and legislative elections are postponed to September 2027

10 Oct 2026

What happened

A decree of the PA president sets simultaneous presidential and legislative elections for 11 September 2027, repealing a July 2026 decree that had set legislative polling for 28 November 2026. The PLO Executive Committee approves the postponement the same day, citing the non-implementation of Resolution 2803, the barring of electoral officials from Gaza, settlement activity and the withholding of clearance revenue.

No Palestinian national election has been held since 2006, and this decree defers the next past the end of the Board of Peace's mandate in Resolution 2803. Under a June 2026 decree-law elected legislators also become the homeland members of the Palestine National Council, so the PNC vote earlier decreed for 1 November 2026 is not treated as current; no official text has stated its fate.
