Hezbollah opens a front from Lebanon — Key Events — Levant

What happened

Hezbollah begins firing on Israeli positions in the Shebaa Farms area on 8 October 2023, stating it acts in support of Gaza. Nearly a year of cross-border exchanges follows, and communities on both sides of the Blue Line are evacuated.

It tied the Lebanon front to Gaza, a linkage Hezbollah maintained until the November 2024 cessation and resumed in March 2026. The displacement of northern Israel and southern Lebanon that began here made the return of residents a war aim and a negotiating term.
