Key event

The heaviest Houthi attack wave against Saudi territory of this round

8 Sep 2026 Essential jazan-industrial

What happened

The spokesman of the Saudi-led coalition, Major-General Turki al-Maliki, states that attacks on civilian and economic sites at Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran wounded 73 people, including women and children, and that fires broke out at oil facilities and utilities in the southern region, where operations were temporarily suspended. The Houthi movement claims strikes with dozens of ballistic missiles and drones on Aramco facilities and on King Khalid air base, and states they answered more than a hundred Saudi air strikes in Yemen over the preceding three days. Türkiye condemns the attacks the same day and reaffirms its support for Saudi sovereignty and territorial integrity.

THE FIRST ARMED ATTACK ON A MAKKAH SIGNATORY'S TERRITORY SINCE THE AGREEMENT WAS SIGNED, and reported as the heaviest since this round of the Saudi–Houthi war reopened in July rather than as the heaviest of the whole war — and the occasion on which the agreement's response machinery would have been visible had any been published. What followed from the other two signatories was a Turkish condemnation that did not mention the agreement and a Pakistani statement that no military response was under discussion. The casualty figure is Saudi Arabia's own; the strike count is the Houthi movement's claim and is not established.
