South Ossetia's early presidential election of 18 September returned Marat Kambolov, who held office in the Russian Federation before standing, with 84.95 per cent on 82.65 per cent turnout; the incumbent had resigned in June to become an adviser to the Russian president, and Russian State Duma polling ran in the territory from 18 to 20 September. That is evidence on the office-holding and administrative-integration observables and the assessment holds unchanged: no further treaty instrument was concluded after the May 2026 one, Abkhazia's resistance to comparable terms was not tested in the window, and no crossing-regime change was reported.
