What happened
Two Palestinian gunmen open fire at a temporary Israeli army checkpoint at Hebron, killing two soldiers and wounding three before they are killed. The prime minister's office orders Hebron closed off and security forces to "prepare for a full lockdown of all of Judea and Samaria"; the military cuts off the Hebron and Halhul areas in an operation it calls "focused and limited", with residents allowed out through three exit points after checks, and razes buildings near the site. Hamas praises the attack without claiming it.
Hebron is the largest West Bank governorate, and the closure changes movement for its residents now, whatever becomes of the wider order, which no source read reported in force by 24 October. Displacement figures conflict — about 2,000 by the defence minister, more than 200 families by the governor — and none is adopted. None of the module's standing questions covers a West Bank military operation outside the three northern camps.
