Notable history
The Emirates unified their separate emirate forces into a single federal military in 1976, and the UAE has since built the Gulf's most operationally experienced Arab armed forces through Yemen, Libya and counter-piracy deployments. The current war has made it the most exposed: of the Iranian launches recorded since February 2026, roughly half were directed at the UAE, and the country's air and missile defence has been the continuously engaged function rather than an occasional one. The UAE is a target and a host in this system rather than a belligerent — a distinction the module keeps, because being attacked is not the same as being at war.
Strengths
Real operational experience by regional standards, sustained investment in air and missile defence, and a unified command structure that avoids the duplication other Gulf states carry.
Limitations
Geography puts it within reach of a very large number of Iranian systems and gives it little depth. Its exposure is structural and cannot be engineered away, which is the reason the module treats the UAE's bypass infrastructure and its air defence as two halves of one problem.
