Identity provenance
Service ensign: St Andrew's ensign — naval ensign of the Russian Federation — carried by Navy, not issued to this record. Drawn by Vigil to the geometry the 1992 readoption specifies — white field, blue saltire, band width one tenth of the fly, 2:3. Drawn rather than supplied because this geometry is fully specified; no image file is involved in this record.
State affiliation: Russia.
The smaller square mark is a Vigil category device, drawn from this record’s own domain, echelon and role — not an official insignia.
In brief
Pacific Fleet naval infantry formation — the much-reconstituted 155th Brigade of the Vuhledar assaults, whose re-formation as the 55th Division the fleet announced on 1 December 2025, reviving a division that existed from 1968 to 2009.

- Broad area of activity
- The southern Donetsk axis — the Pavlivka and Vuhledar assaults of 2022–23 — and adjacent sectors since; the Kyiv axis in 2022. No current disposition is authored.
- Notable history
- The 155th Brigade from Vladivostok was committed in 2022 on the Kyiv axis and then sent to the southern Donetsk front, where its repeated assaults toward Pavlivka and Vuhledar in late 2022 and early 2023 produced the war's most filmed armoured losses and a rare public complaint from its own personnel. Reconstituted several times, it remained on that axis and was among the formations Russia chose to expand: the Pacific Fleet announced on 1 December 2025 that the brigade had been re-formed as the 55th Naval Infantry Division, reviving a formation disbanded in 2009 as part of a wider expansion of marine brigades into divisions.
- Strengths
- Priority manning and refit as a fleet formation, and a divisional structure that brings artillery and support the brigade lacked.
- Limitations
- Each reconstitution has diluted the experienced core, the division's establishment is assessed publicly as unlikely to be filled during the war, and it fights on land nine time zones from its fleet.
