- Qatar. The base south of Doha is the only publicly described Turkish military installation in the Gulf; nothing about its layout or contents is authored.
- Notable history
- A Qatar–Türkiye defence cooperation agreement signed in December 2014 and ratified by Türkiye in 2015 provided for a Turkish presence; the joint command was stood up in 2015 and its first personnel arrived that year. When Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt cut ties with Qatar in June 2017 the Turkish parliament fast-tracked further deployment, and the base was expanded and later renamed for Tariq bin Ziyad. The blockade's thirteen demands included the base's closure; Qatar refused, and the presence survived the 2021 reconciliation. In August 2026 Türkiye signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan — a pact with the state that had once demanded the base's closure — which is why this record and the Makkah relationship are read together.
- Strengths
- A decade of continuity, a host that has treated the presence as a sovereignty guarantee since 2017, and a training and exercise relationship with the Qatari forces that both governments describe as routine.
- Limitations
- Small by any regional standard and described inconsistently in public reporting; it has no published role in Qatar's air defence, which during the 2026 war was the capability that mattered, and no published relation to the Makkah agreement's machinery.
