What happened
Sanaa International Airport is struck as an Iranian aircraft is expected to return a Houthi delegation from the funeral of the Iranian Supreme Leader. Yemen's internationally recognised government claims responsibility for the strike; reporting also attributes it to Saudi Arabia. The Houthi movement announces the end of its de-escalation phase, calls the strike a breach of the 2022 ceasefire understanding, and attacks Abha airport in southern Saudi Arabia with ballistic missiles and drones.
The date this module's Red Sea front reopened. Everything that follows on the Saudi–Yemeni axis — the blockade declaration, the strike exchanges of August and September, the coastal advance to Bab el-Mandeb — runs from here, and it begins as a consequence of the Iranian leadership succession rather than of anything inside Yemen.
