Broad area of activity

The central front from Barda toward Aghdam and the Karabakh highlands

Notable history

The 1st Corps held the central section of the line of contact through the long ceasefire — the Aghdam and Tartar sector, where the April 2016 fighting and the opening of the 2020 war took place — and since the September 2023 operation and the exodus that followed its sector includes the territory the former de facto authorities held. Compiled references describe it as one of three corps particularly oriented on Karabakh; no brigade is listed here.

Strengths

The corps with the longest continuous record on the line that defined the conflict, and interior lines from the Barda hub.

Limitations

A sector whose task has changed from holding a line to administering a territory emptied of its population, with the international attention that brings. No strength, holdings, positions or readiness are published.

Related locations

Aghdam: The former line-of-contact district in the corps sector; no positions are represented.
