Notable history
The 3rd Corps is the northern command and, by the compiled references' account, the largest: four motor-rifle regiments with tank, artillery, rocket and reconnaissance battalions, seated at Vanadzor. Its Tavush sector is the one part of the Armenian–Azerbaijani frontier where delimitation has actually happened — the four villages returned in 2024 were in its area — and where the 2020 July fighting, three months before the war, took place. The composition above is what the transformation concept is replacing and is not adopted as current.
Strengths
Depth behind it, a rail and road link to Georgia that no other corps sector has, and the one frontier sector where a delimited line now exists.
Limitations
The Tavush frontier's villages lie within direct fire of positions on both sides, which the 2024 delimitation addressed in part; the sector's northern borders are closed on one side and dependent on Georgia on the other. No strength, holdings, positions or readiness are published.
