In brief
The eastern corps, holding the Gegharkunik sector around Lake Sevan and the frontier with the Kalbajar district — the sector where Azerbaijani positions advanced onto Armenian-claimed ground in 2021 and 2022, and the one the 2024 delimitation work in Tavush did not reach.

Broad area of activity
The eastern frontier around Lake Sevan and the Vardenis range, facing Kalbajar
Notable history
The 2nd Corps holds the frontier that became a front only in 2020: the Gegharkunik sector, where the Kalbajar district's return to Azerbaijani control brought Azerbaijani forces to a border that had not been an international one in practice for thirty years. The incursions of May 2021 and September 2022 — the largest fighting on Armenia's own territory since independence — fell partly in its area. Compiled references describe it as a corps of independent regiments and battalions; that composition is the one the transformation concept is replacing and is not adopted here.
Strengths
High ground on the Armenian side of a range that the 2020 outcome made the border.
Limitations
A frontier that had no fortification before 2020 and an undelimited line on which the 2022 fighting showed the sector's exposure. No strength, holdings, positions or readiness are published.
