In brief
The best-known Akhmat-branded formation — a Ministry of Defence-subordinated volunteer unit publicly fronted by the Chechen leadership, whose commander was appointed to a ministry post in 2024. Branding and structure are entangled by design: the unit publicly claims roles (Bakhmut 2023, the Belgorod and Kursk border in 2023–24) that independent reporting confirms only in part.
