Identity provenance

Service ensign: Flag of the Russian Airborne Forces (VDV) — carried by Airborne Forces (VDV), not issued to this record. The service flag of the Airborne Forces, adopted 2004 — a blue and green bicolour charged with the VDV emblem. The design itself is not an object of copyright: Article 1259(6) of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation excludes official symbols and signs. The file shipped is the Wikimedia Commons SVG "Flag of the Russian Airborne Troops.svg", released under PD-RU-exempt on that basis, so no attribution or share-alike obligation attaches. Optimised for web display; geometry unaltered.

State affiliation: Russia.

The smaller square mark is a Vigil category device, drawn from this record’s own domain, echelon and role — not an official insignia.

Broad area of activity
The Kyiv axis in 2022; the southern front from late 2022 and eastern sectors since, by public tracking. No current disposition is authored.
Notable history
Formed in 1986 and based at Ussuriysk in the Russian Far East, the brigade was moved west for the invasion and was among the VDV formations publicly placed in the occupation zone north-west of Kyiv in March 2022, a period investigated in wide reporting. After the northern withdrawal it was committed on the southern front, where Ukrainian and independent reporting documented heavy losses in late 2022, and it has since been reconstituted and employed as assault infantry on eastern sectors — the branch's common pattern.
Strengths
VDV selection and a brigade identity maintained through reconstitution.
Limitations
Documented heavy losses in 2022, light equipment for the war it fights, and the distance from home station that every Far Eastern formation carries. Nothing below the brigade is authored.
