In brief
The Leningrad Military District's army-level formation — re-formed in the 2010 reform as the Western district's north-western army, engaged on the Kharkiv axis in the full-scale war, and assessed in 2026 to hold divisions in which UAV battalions are expected to be raised.

- Broad area of activity
- North-western Russia in peacetime affiliation; in the war its elements are publicly assessed on the Kharkiv axis. Nothing about dispositions is authored.
- Notable history
- Re-formed in the 2010 reform that created the Western Military District, as that district's army for the Leningrad direction, and transferred on 1 March 2024 to the re-established Leningrad Military District, whose only army it is. Its formations took part in the 2022 drive on Kharkiv and are publicly assessed as engaged in the Kharkiv region since, on the Kupiansk direction in 2025–26. The Estonian foreign-intelligence assessment for 2026 establishes two structural facts and no more: the army has divisions, and UAV battalions are expected to be established in them — part of a pattern the assessment describes across the Russian force. The atlas records the army at that level and draws nothing beneath it.
- Strengths
- The peacetime ground formation of the direction NATO's newest members face, inside a district re-created to give that direction priority.
- Limitations
- Committed to Ukraine like the rest of its district, so that its published orientation and its actual employment point in different directions; its divisions are established as existing but not identified by any allied assessment obtained, and nothing about strength or reconstitution is authored.
