Notable history
The eastern corps holds the territory that changed hands last: the Arab- majority northeast that passed to state control in the January 2026 fighting as tribal components defected from the SDF, the Euphrates valley, and the Iraqi border with its al-Bukamal crossing. The compilation that maps the corps assigns it the 42nd, 66th, 72nd and 86th Divisions and names its commander as a former HTS eastern-sector commander. Its area is also the one where counter-ISIS responsibility transferred to the state under the January 2026 agreement and where the detention and camp system sits. Two of its divisions are authored below; the 42nd and 72nd are named here only.
