A week after Damascus closed its northeast file by having the SDF dissolve itself, the southern file moved the other way. In remarks reported on 28 August, Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri — the most influential religious authority among Syria's Druze — described the community as an integral part of the State of Israel; other Druze figures publicly rejected the characterisation. On the evening of 31 August, fighting resumed in the western Sweida countryside between Interior Ministry forces and the National Guard aligned with him, with accounts of the casualties differing between Syrian state media and regional reporting. Calm was reported within days. Elsewhere the week was quiet: integration in the northeast was described as advancing by a provincial official and by no instrument, and the standing files — the regional corps decree, the deconfliction cell, Russian crude, the Sweida roadmap — did not move.
