In brief

The corps for Homs, Hama and the desert — the 40th, 52nd, 54th and 82nd Divisions, commanded by a former Nusra and HTS senior commander, and the corps whose area holds the Badia where the ISIS remnant lives and the airbases Israel struck in 2025.

Broad area of activity

Homs and Hama provinces and the Syrian Desert to the Iraqi frontier

Notable history

The central corps holds the middle of the country — Homs and Hama, the crossroads of every route between the coast, the capital and the east — and the Badia, the desert in which the Islamic State remnant disperses and through which the T4 and Palmyra airbases sit, both struck by Israel in 2025 after Turkish delegations had surveyed them. The compilation assigns it the 40th, 52nd, 54th and 82nd Divisions; the 40th is authored below, where its divergent sector attribution is recorded, and the others are named here only.

Strengths

Interior lines to every other corps, and the counter-ISIS responsibility that the state inherited in January 2026.

Limitations

A desert that no corps has ever controlled, and airbases whose rehabilitation has drawn Israeli strikes twice. No strength or basing is published.

Subordinate formations

Rows are layout only — position and order carry no hierarchy, importance, sequence or strength. Every record shown is an immediate subordinate of the selected organisation.
