Notable history
Daraa is where the uprising began in 2011 and where, in December 2024, a southern operations room of local factions took the province before the northern offensive reached Damascus. The 40th Division was built from those southern and National Liberation Front elements in 2025, and the division listings assign it to Daraa. The June 2026 corps mapping, however, places it in the central corps whose stated area is Homs, Hama and the desert, not in the Damascus and southern corps whose area includes Daraa. Either the mapping is wrong, the division moved, or the corps areas are not what the announcement said; this record follows the corps mapping for its parent and states that it may be mistaken.
