Notable history

The Land Forces are the Ministry of Defence's ground service and the conventional half of a Saudi ground structure whose other half — the National Guard — answers to a different ministry. Organised in armoured, mechanised, airborne and artillery brigades with an aviation command, the service's modern history is the 1991 Gulf War and the Yemen campaign from 2015, in which its border sector absorbed years of cross-border attack. Its equipment is Western — American armour, French and Chinese artillery — and its structure has been reorganised repeatedly around regional commands. In the current war no ground operation has involved it, and this record makes no claim that one has.

Modern Western equipment, a decade of cross-border operational exposure on the Yemen frontier, and the kingdom's budget behind it.

Limitations

The Yemen campaign exposed limits in sustained joint operations that published assessments describe at length, and a conventional army is the least relevant Saudi service to a war of missiles, drones and shipping. Nothing here describes strength, holdings, basing or readiness.
