Drones are intercepted over Saudi Arabia's principal crude export and refining complex at Ras Tanura; a fire starts from debris of the intercepted drones and the facility halts operations, reopening on 13 March. A further attempt on 4 March is intercepted with no reported disruption.
Why it mattersATTRIBUTION IS DISPUTED AND REMAINS SO. Saudi Arabia attributed the attack to Iran; Iranian officials publicly denied targeting Gulf energy facilities. On the same day Iran's defence ministry reported attacks on Qatari facilities and the IRGC claimed a tanker strike — so Iranian messaging was internally inconsistent rather than uniformly denying. Vigil publishes the physical event and both positions and adjudicates neither.
