- Formed in autumn 2014 from a battalion of an existing artillery brigade, as the reserve of heavy guns Ukraine had let lapse before the Donbas war reminded it of their use. It kept the 203 mm 2S7 self-propelled guns of the Soviet inheritance in service when few armies had, and after 2022 became the only Ukrainian formation publicly documented operating both those and the German PzH 2000 — the ends of a fifty-year technological span in one brigade, sustained by American 203 mm ammunition supplied for the purpose.
