- Allied Command Operations is the command through which everything the alliance does operationally runs, headed by the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, who is responsible to the Military Committee. It took its present name in the 2002 Prague reorganisation, when Allied Command Europe became a functional command and the alliance's headquarters were cut from thirty-two to nine; the 2018 adaptation added the Norfolk joint force command and the enabling command at Ulm. The current structure carries three joint force commands, three component commands, the enabling command and a set of specialised forces. In February 2026 the North Atlantic Council agreed a new distribution of its senior posts among allies, to be implemented with the scheduled rotation of personnel.
