- 廣泛活動地區
- Naval Air Station Sigonella, Sicily. NATO describes it as conducting ISR operations in support of NATO and SACEUR; no area of operations is published.
- 重要歷史
- The programme dates from a 1992 Defence Planning Committee initiative. The NATO Alliance Ground Surveillance Force was activated at Sigonella in September 2015; its first RQ-4D arrived in November 2019, initial operational capability came on 15 February 2021 and the handover from the fifteen acquiring nations to all allies was completed on 31 March 2022. In September 2023 it was re-designated the NATO ISR Force, which NATO says reflects a broadening beyond ground surveillance to an analytic capability that processes, exploits and disseminates intelligence to allies. At the 2026 summit Denmark, Finland, Germany and Norway announced the procurement of up to five MQ-4C Triton aircraft to enhance it.
- 優勢
- Like the early-warning force, it is alliance property: five NATO-owned RQ-4D aircraft with a radar NATO says works independently of weather, day and night, and an analytic element whose product is available to all allies. The 2026 Triton announcement by four northern allies ties its growth to this theatre.
- 限制
- Five aircraft, seated in Sicily. Nothing about what they observe, when or where is published, and NATO's own description of the 2023 re-designation makes clear that the analytic function is the newer and less mature half. The force's site describes its role as being under SHAPE in coordination with the air command; that coordination is not a command edge and none is drawn.
