The nine-month closure of the Lachin corridor was followed in September 2023 by the departure of effectively the entire Armenian population of Karabakh — reported by international agencies as over one hundred thousand people. The movement is historical; integration, property, heritage and the missing are current.

Vigil

- Long-term integration outcomes for a displacement of this size and speed are not yet measurable, which is why the final step is graded plausible.
- Conditions during the blockade were reported by agencies with limited access and are characterised differently by the parties.
- The total number of Armenians held in Azerbaijan is stated differently by the parties and by international bodies. The sixteen tried and sentenced in February 2026 are documented; the wider caseload is not agreed.
- Vigil records the sentences, the charges and the parties' and Amnesty International's characterisations of the proceedings, and does not adjudicate the fairness of the trials.
- Heritage assessments are contested and independent survey access has been limited.
- Vigil publishes no casualty or displacement projection for any future scenario.
- The characterisation of the September 2023 departure is contested. Azerbaijan describes it as voluntary movement following an offer of integration under Azerbaijani citizenship; Armenia and several international bodies describe it as forced displacement. The physical facts — near-total departure within about ten days — are not in dispute. The characterisation is, and this module records both positions rather than adopting one.
- The blockade's effects are described by Azerbaijan as exaggerated and by humanitarian agencies as severe, with the corridor's status during the period itself contested. Agency reporting is the basis of this record and the disagreement is noted.

Housing, employment and schooling are measurable and are reported by agencies working in Armenia. This is where the current caseload actually sits.
These have separated. The missing-persons caseload — some 4,500 names on the ICRC's list — remains a file that can move independently of any settlement. The detainees no longer are one: fifteen former officials were sentenced in Baku in February 2026, five to life, with a separate twenty-year sentence for Ruben Vardanyan, and an appeal court upheld the verdicts in August 2026. Any release is now an act of Azerbaijani clemency rather than an exchange, and nothing in the agreed instruments requires one.
Being pursued outside the bilateral track. Their progress is public and slow.
None exists. Its creation would be a substantive change and there is currently no indicator pointing toward one.
