Des gardes-frontières du FSB russe qui ont servi aux côtés des forces arméniennes sur les frontières de l’Arménie avec la Turquie et l’Iran en vertu d’un accord de longue date. L’arrangement a été démantelé point de contrôle par point de contrôle — l’aéroport de Zvartnots en août 2024, le point de passage iranien à partir de janvier 2025, Margara à partir de mars 2025 et Akhurik à partir du début de 2026 — si bien qu’aucun point de contrôle frontalier arménien n’est plus sous supervision russe. C’est le marqueur structurel achevé le plus net du réalignement sécuritaire de l’Arménie, et il contraste délibérément avec la base de Gyumri, dont le bail court jusqu’en 2044 et à laquelle l’Arménie n’a pas entrepris de mettre fin.

- Historique notable
- A 1992 treaty gave Russian border troops the guarding of Armenia's frontiers with Türkiye and Iran, the external borders of the former Soviet Union, alongside Armenian units — an arrangement that outlasted every other Soviet-era border deployment in the South Caucasus and became part of the security guarantee Armenia relied on until 2020. After the 2023 loss of Karabakh and the 2024 freeze of Armenia's CSTO participation, Yerevan asked for the Russian presence to be removed from the places where its symbolism was sharpest: Zvartnots airport in August 2024, the Agarak crossing to Iran from January 2025, the Margara crossing to Türkiye from March 2025 and the Akhurik rail crossing at the start of 2026. Each transfer was agreed rather than forced, which is the point: this is the presence Armenia could end by request and did, while the Gyumri base, held under a lease to 2044, is the one it has not moved to end.
