Kurz gefasst
Russische FSB-Grenztruppen, die im Rahmen eines langjährigen Abkommens neben armenischen Kräften an Armeniens Grenzen zur Türkei und zu Iran Dienst taten. Die Regelung wurde Kontrollpunkt für Kontrollpunkt zurückgefahren — der Flughafen Zvartnots im August 2024, der iranische Übergang ab Januar 2025, Margara ab März 2025 und Akhurik ab Beginn des Jahres 2026 —, sodass kein armenischer Grenzkontrollpunkt mehr unter russischer Aufsicht steht. Sie ist der deutlichste abgeschlossene strukturelle Marker der sicherheitspolitischen Neuausrichtung Armeniens und steht in bewusstem Gegensatz zum Stützpunkt Gyumri, dessen Pacht bis 2044 läuft und den Armenien nicht zu beenden versucht hat.

- Historically the Armenia–Türkiye and Armenia–Iran frontiers; since the start of 2026 no Armenian border checkpoint. Whether any Russian border personnel remain on the green border is stated by neither government and is not authored.
- Bemerkenswerte Geschichte
- A 1992 treaty gave Russian border troops the guarding of Armenia's frontiers with Türkiye and Iran, the external borders of the former Soviet Union, alongside Armenian units — an arrangement that outlasted every other Soviet-era border deployment in the South Caucasus and became part of the security guarantee Armenia relied on until 2020. After the 2023 loss of Karabakh and the 2024 freeze of Armenia's CSTO participation, Yerevan asked for the Russian presence to be removed from the places where its symbolism was sharpest: Zvartnots airport in August 2024, the Agarak crossing to Iran from January 2025, the Margara crossing to Türkiye from March 2025 and the Akhurik rail crossing at the start of 2026. Each transfer was agreed rather than forced, which is the point: this is the presence Armenia could end by request and did, while the Gyumri base, held under a lease to 2044, is the one it has not moved to end.

Deployed under the 1992 Russia–Armenia border-guard treaty as a detachment of the FSB Border Service serving alongside Armenian units; the checkpoint functions passed to the Armenian Border Guard between August 2024 and January 2026, and whatever remains is not described by either government.
