Прикордонні війська ФСБ Росії, які служили поряд із вірменськими силами на кордонах Вірменії з Туреччиною та Іраном згідно з давньою угодою. Цю домовленість згортали пункт за пунктом — аеропорт Звартноц у серпні 2024 року, іранський пункт пропуску з січня 2025 року, Маргара з березня 2025 року та Ахурік з початку 2026 року, — тож жоден вірменський прикордонний пункт пропуску не залишився під російським наглядом. Це найвиразніший завершений структурний маркер безпекової переорієнтації Вірменії, і він свідомо контрастує з базою в Гюмрі, оренда якої триває до 2044 року і яку Вірменія не намагалася припинити.

Примітна історія: A 1992 treaty gave Russian border troops the guarding of Armenia's frontiers with Türkiye and Iran, the external borders of the former Soviet Union, alongside Armenian units — an arrangement that outlasted every other Soviet-era border deployment in the South Caucasus and became part of the security guarantee Armenia relied on until 2020. After the 2023 loss of Karabakh and the 2024 freeze of Armenia's CSTO participation, Yerevan asked for the Russian presence to be removed from the places where its symbolism was sharpest: Zvartnots airport in August 2024, the Agarak crossing to Iran from January 2025, the Margara crossing to Türkiye from March 2025 and the Akhurik rail crossing at the start of 2026. Each transfer was agreed rather than forced, which is the point: this is the presence Armenia could end by request and did, while the Gyumri base, held under a lease to 2044, is the one it has not moved to end.
