In brief
Volunteer formations recruited through the Redut structure — described by investigative reporting and UK Defence Intelligence as a recruitment shell operated for Russian military intelligence, whose contractors were offered ministry contracts after 2022 and which fed more than twenty formations. A category record: the composition is deliberately opaque in public reporting.
