The land bridge
Ukraine is landlocked for military purposes: the Black Sea is contested and air transport into a contested-airspace country is not viable at scale. Overland routes through Poland are therefore the physical precondition for Western supply, which gives Warsaw a structural position no amount of policy disagreement elsewhere can substitute for.
Friction inside alignment — 2026-06
Polish support for Ukraine's war effort has coexisted with sustained bilateral friction over agricultural imports and haulage access, including border blockades by Polish carriers and farmers. The module records this as a real constraint rather than as a contradiction: transit-state leverage and transit-state grievance are the same fact seen from two sides.
Threat perception — 2026-06
Poland reads this war as a demonstration of what its own security environment could become, which is the driver behind rearmament at a pace unusual in the alliance. That reading is stated openly and shapes Warsaw's preference for maximal rather than calibrated support.
