The reported agenda covered security and humanitarian issues, including the implementation of ceasefire monitoring and arrangements for a demilitarised zone; the future of Russian-occupied territory was expected to be the hardest item. Russia continued to require that Ukraine cede control of the eastern Donbas. Ukraine continued to seek postwar security guarantees with a US backstop, and President Zelensky said Ukraine had "agreed to all realistic proposals from the United States". The United States had set a June deadline for a settlement. No breakthrough was reported.
