Notable history
The oldest and largest of the US Navy's numbered fleet organisations by area, and one of INDOPACOM's five service component commands alongside US Army Pacific, US Pacific Air Forces, US Marine Forces Pacific and US Space Forces Indo-Pacific. Its relevance to this module is structural rather than operational: American maritime presence in the western Pacific is what regional states calibrate against, and a component command is the institution through which that presence is generated and sustained. The 2026 US defence strategy's emphasis on the first island chain and denial concepts is the framework partners read this command through.
Strengths
Scale, a mature alliance network that provides access and interoperability, and long-established relationships with the Japanese, Australian and Philippine navies.
Limitations
Distance is the structural problem and no organisation solves it: the theatre is far from the continental United States and close to China. Shipbuilding and maintenance throughput are publicly documented constraints on the US Navy as a whole. This record publishes no basing, force levels, ship counts, posture or deployment information of any kind, and nothing in it should be read as evidence about what the United States would do.
Subordinate formations
Rows are layout only — position and order carry no hierarchy, importance, sequence or strength. Every record shown is an immediate subordinate of the selected organisation.
Related locations
Philippine Sea: Broad area-of-responsibility association only. No basing, ship locations, transit schedules or deployment information appear anywhere in this module.
