Notable history
The coastal corps holds the region the transition has handled worst: the Alawite heartland where an ambush campaign by former-regime remnants in March 2025 triggered reprisals that killed over 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and where the UN Commission of Inquiry found the violence widespread and systematic and committed in part by members of interim- government forces. Its area also holds the two Russian facilities — Khmeimim and Tartus — whose future the August 2026 memorandum settled. The compilation assigns it the 50th, 56th, 74th and 84th Divisions, including a reserve division newly formed on the coast, and names its commander as a former HTS commander of several north-western sectors. The 50th is authored below.
Strengths
Control of the ports and the coast road, and a corps command over a region the state had previously governed through militias.
Limitations
A population that reads its own future in the March 2025 file, a coastal insurgency whose scale is unverified, and a Russian presence being restructured on the corps' own ground. No strength or basing is published.
Subordinate formations
Rows are layout only — position and order carry no hierarchy, importance, sequence or strength. Every record shown is an immediate subordinate of the selected organisation.
Lineage & institutional history
One of five regional corps announced in late June 2026; official confirmation of the corps layer was pending in the compilation this record rests on, and the grouping is carried as reported.
