Why it mattersAnkara's stated demand throughout the transition has been the dissolution of the YPG as an autonomous force, not the removal of particular individuals. This is the first observable case of Türkiye applying that test to a named person and finding it satisfied: the same commander is unacceptable in a Kurdish-led formation and acceptable in a Syrian ministry. It is a narrow fact and should not be read as a change in Ankara's position on the SDF — Abdi's own listing is unchanged, and no policy statement accompanied the delisting. What it establishes is that the position is about the uniform rather than the person, which is a testable claim and had not previously been tested.
