What happened

The Iranian monarchy falls and an Islamic Republic is established, with a Supreme Leader as the state's ultimate authority above an elected presidency.

It created both the institutional structure this module authors as offices — a Supreme Leader above a president — and the adversarial relationships with the United States and Israel that have stood since. Neither began in 2026.
