Taiwan's dependence on the semiconductor ecosystem centred on TSMC, which holds the majority of the world's most advanced logic fabrication. It is central to the island's economy, tax base and international standing, and is the asset that makes Taiwan's security a global economic question.
TSMC and the semiconductor ecosystem relied on economically by Taiwan (Republic of China). A directional arrangement: the two parties do not hold the same position in it. Authored once and read from both ends.

摘要
The semiconductor ecosystem centred on TSMC produces the majority of the world's most advanced logic chips, and it is central to Taiwan's economy, its tax base and its international standing. The dependence runs in one direction in the sense that matters here: the industry could in principle be reconstituted elsewhere over a decade, and the state's fiscal and diplomatic position could not be reconstituted without it. That is also why the relationship is being actively changed from outside — substantial capacity has been committed to Arizona, the United States, Japan and the European Union are all courting fabrication investment, and American export-control policy regulates in effect what the industry may sell and to whom. Chinese customers account for a modest share of revenue under periodically renegotiated licences.
為何重要
It is why this module has an economy section at all, and why its security questions are read in capitals with no view on Taiwanese politics. It is also the source of the module's most contested proposition — whether concentration deters attack or invites it — which this record does not attempt to settle.
仍然未知的事項
- This module does not record the date the dependence became structural. `validFrom` is given as 1987, the standard founding date for the company at the centre of the ecosystem, and is context rather than a claim these sources establish.
- Vigil publishes no revenue shares, tax contributions, employment figures or output volumes. The dependence is recorded as structural rather than measured.
- Whether overseas capacity expansion materially reduces the concentration, and on what timescale, is not established and is contested.
證據同樣支持的其他解讀
- The concentration is read by some as a deterrent — an asset too valuable to the world economy to be destroyed or seized intact — and by others as an incentive and a vulnerability. This module records the concentration as a fact and treats its deterrent effect as unresolved.
