Service ensign: Flag of the Republic of China Air Force. The Air Force flag — a sky-blue field charged with the service's winged badge around the white sun. Public domain on Commons in its own right; the ROC Ministry of National Defence is recorded as the author of the original design. LEGIBILITY, STATED: the badge is a detailed device and at the 18x12px the formations index renders a mark at it resolves to a pale form on sky blue. It was kept because the FIELD COLOUR carries the identity at that size and the badge resolves properly at the 38x26 and 40x40 the Atlas card and masthead use — the same test the 1MB Iranian service flags failed and were refused on. - STRUCTURE. The service publishes four component commands: a combatant command holding the flying forces, an air defense and missile command holding ground-based air and missile defence, an education, training and doctrine development command, and a maintenance and support command. The atlas records the first two, because they are the two the module's analysis turns on — combat aviation and the interception workload on one side, the layered interceptor system and its early warning on the other. The placement of ground-based air and missile defence inside the air force rather than the army is worth noticing: most militaries split it, Taiwan does not, and the consequence is that a single service owns both the aircraft that meet daily air activity and the interceptors that would meet a missile salvo. Modernised substantially in the 1990s with the near-simultaneous acquisition of F-16s, Mirage 2000-5s and the indigenous Ching-kuo fighter — a three-type fleet that remains its structure today, now upgraded rather than replaced. Since the mid-2010s its most demanding routine task has not been combat but attrition management: responding to sustained PLA air activity that erodes airframe hours, fatigues crews and consumes readiness without a shot being fired.

- An upgraded and increasingly homogeneous fighter fleet with modern radar and missiles, extensive layered ground-based air and missile defence, and the accumulated experience of managing constant interception activity.
- Limites
- Faces a far larger opposing air force; sustained grey-zone activity imposes a real and asymmetric maintenance and fatigue burden; and an air force operating from a small island has inherent basing constraints that drive its investment in dispersal, hardening and mobile systems. Vigil publishes no basing, dispersal or readiness detail.
