Progressive upgrade programmes have kept it relevant.
Limites
Smaller and shorter-ranged than the F-16, with a more limited payload, and built in modest numbers. It is a capable complement to the fleet rather than its backbone.

Identification visuelle
A small twin-engine fighter with a distinctly short, blended wing-fuselage join, side-mounted intakes under the wing root and a single fin. Superficially similar to the F/A-18 in planform but noticeably smaller, which is the usual point of confusion in photographs.

Progressive upgrade programmes have kept the type current and are funded in Taiwan's published defence budgets. Taiwan has publicly exercised highway landings and dispersal operations with the fleet.
