- Historique notable
- Sweida's factions began as community self-defence in a war the province largely stayed out of — the Men of Dignity, founded in 2013 to keep the community's sons out of the Assad-era army, the largest among them — and the July 2025 violence hardened them into the province's de facto security authority: fighting between Druze factions and Bedouin tribal fighters drew in government forces, hundreds were killed with documented abuses against Druze civilians, Israel struck Damascus stating it was protecting the Druze, and the ceasefire left the factions in control of most of the province. On 23 August 2025 some thirty to forty factions consolidated into a National Guard under Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri. The standoff has since become the transition's sharpest internal impasse: the province's parliamentary seats vacant, its factions armed, fighting with Interior Ministry forces resumed on 31 August 2026, and the community's most influential figure publicly describing it as part of the State of Israel three days earlier, in words other Druze rejected.

Israel invokes the protection of the Druze as a stated justification for its southern posture and has reportedly sought a corridor to Sweida in the security negotiation. Damascus rejects any external role and states that Sweida is an internal Syrian matter; Sweida's own factions are not united on the question and several have publicly refused external patronage. No command, supply or support relationship is established, and this module records the disagreement rather than resolving it.
