- Historique notable
- Russian Deputy Defence Minister Yunus-Bek Yevkurov was received in Ouagadougou in September 2023 for initial discussions on an Africa Corps deployment. The arrival of an initial contingent of about a hundred was announced on 24 January 2024 through the corps' own channel, with a base at Loumbila north-east of the capital and a stated plan to grow to three hundred. Alongside it came a Ministry-linked volunteer brigade whose task, by Western assessment and its own commander's account, was the head of state's protection and training. The expansion did not happen: in August 2024 that commander told AFP he had withdrawn about a hundred men to fight in Kursk, leaving some behind with bases and equipment. Wagner never deployed here; this is an Africa Corps presence from the start. A high-level Russian defence delegation visited all three AES capitals in July 2025, and reporting puts the contingent at 100–300.

- Limites
- Very small, and reported to have contracted rather than grown. Nothing in the public record attributes combat operations, casualties or civilian-harm cases to this contingent — an absence that reflects both its size and the thinness of reporting from Burkina Faso, and should not be read as a finding about its conduct either way. Burkina Faso's security effort rests overwhelmingly on its own mass mobilisation rather than on this partnership, which is the clearest structural difference from Mali.
